The Sound Quality of RoIOs (<10 sec. snippets)

Ever wondered how the different sound quality ratings really sound? Now you can find out. Here are sound snippets of various RoIOs. They are all shorter than 10 secs. due to legal reasons. All are encoded in MPEG level 3, so be sure to get a player program (see below for links).

Make also sure to listen to them in maximum quality (good sound card and via headphones so that no additional distortions will be added). For comparison, I included one original track. All tracks are exactly 160 kByte each.

Here are external links to pages with audio files in different formats. These links are here for your convenience and you could have found them easily for yourself. The maintainers of the RoIO database are not responsible for them. If you discover new audio sources on the web, please inform me.

Note #1: There are quite often problems with these links. Sites are changing, temporarily down of moving/upgrading. I'm aware of this problem and try to update the links as soon as possible. Since audio files generate lots of taffic (and attention!) they usually don't live long and get the maintainer into trouble. Take this as an advice when you plan to create your own site 8^)

MPEG level 3

MPEG level 3 files are surprisingly small and have excellent quality. You need at least a PowerPC/Pentium for playback and MPEG player software for Mac and PC.

RealAudio

RealAudio files are very small and generally of lower quality. Playable in your browser with the correct plug-in. RealAudio player software/browser plugins (Mac/PC).
